Pyrrosia piloselloides (dragon scales fern)

Spores on a fertile frond of Pyrrosia piloselloides.
 Changi, August 2012

These native ferns clothe many of our old trees in Singapore, especially rain trees (Samanea saman) which have deeply fissured and crackly bark. Once established on trunks or branches, these hardy ferns create conducive mirco-climates for other less tough ferns to grow in.
